History

Ramsey, James

Jim Ramsey has been working with his hands since childhood. He helped his father build a 21-foot Chris Craft cruiser, (OK how much help can a seven year old be, but he was there). Then he moved on to HO model trains followed by flying model airplanes. Jim spent 23 years in the Air Force as a photographic repair technician before retiring in Olathe, Kansas. It was then he got serious about woodworking. For the past 15 years Jim has attended the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Franklin Indiana. He has taken classes on making cabinets, veneer work, marquerty, and mixed media. He has also attended workshops on inlay, finishing, carving, and working with curves. It was with curves that Jim found the direction he wanted to take with his woodworking skills. Curves were a natural move in creating the work you will find here in his jewelry boxes. Other wood artists have inspired Jim as well as his own original interpretation of each piece. Jim has lectured at the Kansas City Woodworking Guild, also the Wichita Kansas and St. Joseph Missouri guilds. Second place in the Woodworking shows showoff contest (Kansas City show) 2010 Runner up in Marc Adams School of Woodworking Scholarship contest 2006 Jim's wooden sculptures and boxes have been showcased in the following exhibitions: Olathe College Church of the Nazarene annual Artist showcase The Woodworking Shows Showoff contest Hollis renewal Center Art Fair
