Marian Vavra is a Kansas artist. The ancient art of wheat weaving became the first decorative art form of civilization. Our ancestors believed there were spirits in the grains, earth and nature, and needed a way to thank these gods to assure their return for the next growing season. They made harvest symbols from the last sheaf of grain as their thanksgiving offerings and as a home for the spirits to reside till the next planting season. Marian's "Kansas Angel" was chosen as presenting Kansas as one of "America's 50 Best Souvenirs" on MSN Travel web site.
